Weddings are very important to a person and it is essential that everything is perfect. Wedding dress is perhaps the most vital part of the ceremony, and every bride dreams of having that beautiful white wedding gown, which is floor length, flowing and beautifully decorated. White has traditionally represented purity and has always been a favorite with all women; in fact most American women prefer to choose the traditional white wedding gown and do not like the idea of a different colored gown, much less a red wedding gown! It is unthinkable for an American woman to choose a red dress for her wedding.

However, it is interesting to note that this trend is slowly changing in the US with more women looking to add some color to their pristine white gowns. What most Americans do not realize is that red has always been used in weddings and is in fact used in Chinese, Hindu and Muslim weddings.  In fact, tradition of using red in weddings was popular in the medieval times. What is more interesting is that in early days, blue wedding gowns were popular as blue was thought to be the color that represented the Virgin Mary and marked purity of a woman. However, later, when prominent people, like Queen Victoria chose to wear white for their weddings, the concept of wearing white gowns became popular and the sole choice for wedding gown color.

However, times are changing today and bridal magazines like Bridal Guide, Brides and Modern Guide have started featuring white gowns with a little red on it. In fact, some brides prefer to add a little red to their white gowns and some have gone all out and worn a red gown for their wedding. Initially, this trend was more popular when the wedding took place in winters or coincided with Valentine‘s day celebrations.  Red dresses are more popular in Europe and have been so for the past ten years whereas they have just recently started appearing in the United States for the past four years or so. Hence, while you may easily find a white dress with a little red on it, it might just be a wee bit difficult to find a fully red gown in the United States. However, if you are looking for that perfect red dress for your wedding, you can see the wedding gown collection at Moonlight Bridal or Allure Bridals, Lady Roi Bridal and Anjolique as they all have a good selection of red wedding gowns. In fact, here is a sample red gown from Moonlight Bridal.
